WFU Theatre: ‘John Proctor is the Villain’ opens Feb. 4

Wake Forest University Theatre continues its season with “John Proctor is the Villain” by Kimberly Belflower. The play will be directed by Professor of Acting & Directing in Theatre Sharon Andrews.

Performances are Feb. 4-5 and 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb 6 & 13 at 2 p.m. on the Tedford Stage of the Scales Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 senior citizens, and $7 students (price includes sales tax).

This fast-paced play follows a group of small-town Appalachian Georgia high schoolers as they grapple with big world issues of sex and power. A group of girls has started a controversial feminism club just as evidence is surfacing that one of their fathers is guilty of sexual assault.  Meanwhile, their hip English teacher is guiding the class through Arthur Miller’s, “The Crucible,” and his iconic interpretation of John Proctor as a hero is brilliantly challenged by the young women.

In accordance with University guidelines, event admittance requires all audience members to wear a mask while inside the building and provide proof of full vaccination (WFU ID or vaccination card) or negative results of PCR or rapid antigen COVID test taken within 48 hours prior to the event for all visitors ages 12 and over.  Digital images of vaccination records or test results are acceptable. Photo ID is not required.
