What You Need to Know

Wake Forest University offers online immersion courses to students ages 13 and up

The school offers courses in medicine, business, and other sciences

Catherine Hodge, a high school junior, has taken 3 courses and has been excited to expand her knowledge

The school offers two and four-week online immersion programs in business, medicine and other sciences.

Catherine Hodge is a junior in high school in Raleigh with strong ties to Wake Forest University. Both of her parents went there, and it has always been a part of her life.

“I feel like this is a better opportunity for so many kids to just jump on and learn something,” Hodge said.

Hodge took a psychology course last summer and came back this summer to take courses in health and wellness and neuroscience.

“I love just thinking about the brain and how it works,” Hodge said. “I just wanted to further my understanding of it and think about whether this is something I want to go into in the future. I’m just exploring all of those possibilities.”

Hodge says she wasn’t a fan of virtual learning when she was forced to do it during her freshman year, but she appreciates the education she has gotten from these courses in a short time.

“I realize how great education is and how I need to take it all in while I can,” said Hodge. “I feel like these online classes are giving us so much more of an opportunity to join kids out of state and out of the country.”

Wake Forest University offers courses year-round. You can find more information about the offerings here.
