Cannabis and Social Equity Policy

This course will take a deep dive into the existing and emerging cannabis-related policies of New York State. Currently the State is hoping to regulate a more fair, diverse, and inclusive adult-use cannabis industry. For instance, NY State has instituted a first-in-the-nation Seeding Opportunity Initiative that prioritizes local farmers and equity entrepreneurs with prior cannabis-related offenses. Students will explore these policies and those of other states with active medical and adult-use programs. Emerging policies will be presented and discussed by professionals working directly with government representatives. Students will have the opportunity to discuss the potential impact on the expected legal industry and the illicit market.
