Triad gas prices surge for drivers
Throughout the Triad, drivers are dealing with high fuel prices, as the war between Ukraine and Russia shows no signs of slowing down. From $3.99 to $4.19 and everywhere in between, Triad drivers are feeling the pinch at the pumps. “They ain’t good, man they are going up every day man, I don’t know what is going on but gas is terrible man, especially in an SUV like this,” said Colin Holiday who was putting gas in his gas can and SUV Monday. Wake Forest University Professor of Economics Robert Whaples said people are experiencing sticker shock, as gas prices continue to rise. He said this has to do with the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. “What that means is that we are not letting Russia supply as much oil to the world market anymore and counties are afraid if they do business with Russia that the U.S. and other big countries are going to put sanctions on them,” he said. And for drivers like Alexis Sides, that means added stress when filling up. "It makes it kind of hard to like distribute your gas throughout the week if you have to work. I know for me I commute from Greensboro every day so it is pretty difficult on the money and the wallets,” she said. Sides said she’s also trying her best to save some money in other ways. “I try to cook more so I can save more money and not spend too much money on food, I cook more to save money, sometimes I might not go out a weekend just to save gas,” she said. But is there any end in sight and could those prices be going down any time soon? "I think unless the fighting gets into the oil-producing areas or the oil terminals or the shipping you know the oil tankers, unless they get involved I don’t that we have to worry about the price going up to 200 dollars a barrel. But there are some people saying that it will go up there and that will mean the price of gasoline goes up," professor Robert Whaples said.In just the last 24 hours oil prices have surged to $130 per barrel. Professor Whaples said people can also look into apps that will help them find carpoolers and things like that.
